CHOOSING PRESENCE PP. 55-68
Overview
In Chapter 6 - Resistance, author Jim Heaney discusses the concept of resistance, which he defines as the negative energy we put into denying reality, leading to inner conflicts, stress, and self-inflicted suffering. He argues that accepting what is, rather than what we wish it to be, is key to overcoming this resistance. Heaney suggests that the power to stop this cycle comes from staying present and still, which changes our inner awareness and well-being, transforming negative thoughts and emotions. He emphasizes that presence, achieved through intentional stillness, is a more beneficial alternative to the misery created by resistance, and it is the only state that the ego cannot withstand.
Suffering is the space between what I want and what is real.
