2026 Texas Men’s Rites of Passage (MROP)
What is the Men’s Rites of Passage (MROP)?
The Men’s Rites of Passage (MROP) is a five-day intensive retreat, created by Fr. Richard Rohr, and offered for thousands of men around the world.
It’s not just a men’s retreat—it’s a formal initiation journey that helps men awaken to the adventure and mystery of their:
masculinity
deep spirituality
place in the world
way of wisdom
Many men feel a quiet (or not-so-quiet) longing: “What does it mean to be a man—and how do I live it with integrity?” In most modern communities, meaningful initiation rituals are missing. MROP offers a grounded, guided threshold experience to help you step forward with greater clarity, courage, and purpose.
What to expect at an MROP
Each day includes:
group centering
teachings on key themes in masculine spirituality
quiet time for reflection
connecting in small groups
MROP is designed for participation, not observation. You’re invited to come with a “beginner’s mind” and a willingness to engage wholeheartedly.
What MROP is (and isn’t)
MROP is:
a personal discovery about masculine spirituality and “the Holy Mystery”
a time to savor the healing power of nature
a process that can touch grief, loss, and father/relationship themes
an opportunity to examine priorities and listen for your next steps
MROP is not:
a lecture-based retreat
a workshop that’s only informational
a “deprivation” or endurance experience
anything unsafe or a test of physical stamina
Who is welcome?
The MROP is interfaith—emerging from a Judeo-Christian stream yet not uniquely Christian, and not about proselytizing. Men of varied backgrounds and beliefs are welcome - even men who identify as agnostic or atheist.
All male-identified participants of all sexual orientations are welcome.
